Tech on a Budget

Now more than ever, affordable tech helps us stay connected. Here are some favorites.

Who: Greg Githens, author, How to Think Strategically

What: Protector case for my iPhone 8

Why: This has saved my phone from damage from multiple drops. Without it, I’d be looking at cracked and scratched screens—maybe even a catastrophic loss. And with its black and gray color combo, it looks good, too.

Cell Phone Cases

Who: Calloway Cook, president, Illuminate Labs

What: A pair of blue-light blocking glasses

Why: Computers and phones emit blue wavelengths of light that block melatonin production in the body. I wear these glasses while working at night, and they allow me to fall asleep without interruption.

Blue-Light Glasses

Who: Bobby Reed, CEO, Capitol Tech Solutions

What: My charging pad for my phone

Why: I’m in and out of calls all day and used to have a low or dead battery by the end of the day. Now I just keep my phone on the charging pad when I’m at my desk, and I no longer have issues with battery life. It saves me a ton of headaches.

Charging Pads

Who: Stephen Shapiro, author, Invisible Solutions: 25 Lenses That Reframe and Help Solve Difficult Business Problems

What: Listen-Only Earphone Kit

Why: With all of my events going virtual, I wanted a professional way to appear on camera. No AirPods or bulky headsets. The Otto earphone is virtually undetectable. It allows me to hear the conversation without using computer speakers, thus eliminating feedback and echo. It also makes me feel like I am in a television studio, which helps me up my on-air presence.

Earbuds

Who: Deaven Cavnar, content marketing manager, LifeSquire

What: Power Port

Why: Instead of charging just one or two gadgets at a time, this station can safely charge up to 10 USB items at once. It also has surge protection and temperature control.
